Minister suspends Umoja killer bus firm.....

A fleet of buses was on Friday stopped from carrying passengers until the vehicles were inspected and cleared, days after one of them was involved in an accident with a train killing 12 people.
All the drivers of the Umoinner Sacco vehicles will have to be cleared by the Traffic Department before they are allowed back on the road, according to Transport Cabinet secretary Michael Kamau.
“I have given them Saturday and Sunday to comply. If they do not, they will be kept out of business for as long as it takes,” said Mr Kamau while on a tour of the accident scene at Mutindwa, Nairobi.
The Wednesday accident killed 12 people and injured scores of others.
The minister vowed to clean the department of motor vehicle inspectorate, saying some officers had turned it into a cash cow.
“Some of these officers are going to court to block the government from transferring them from the department. There must be something fishy that they are doing at the department and that is why they do not want to transferred,” he said.
Mr Kamau asked courts to allow the government to remove all illegal structures on road reserves saying that numerous court injunctions had made it hard for the ministry to do so.
