P-unit's You Guy win two awards in Channel O Music Awards

Kenyan boy group P Unit, beat their continental music rivals to break the Channel O Africa music awards jinx and win a double during the ceremony in South Africa, on Saturday night. The celebrated group picked up the Most Gifted African East Video award, for their hit video you Guy (Dat Dendai) before gracing the podium again for the Most Gifted Ragga Dancehall Video thanks to the same song.  It was the first time a Kenyan group shone during the annual continental awards in an affair that has over the years been dominated by West African and South African artistes. “We thank God for the great success. We also want to thank our management and our fans. This one is a big one,” BonEye, one of the group members said as they accepted the awards. “We also thank the Kenyan media for the support,” Frasha told MondayBlues.  Even though the other Kenyan nominees among them Sauti Sol, STL, Xtatic and Victoria Kimani did not win, it was a great night for Kenya. Victoria Kimani gave a great performance, singing her hit song Toto before she was called to present the award for the Most Gifted Male Video. STL, who had fl own all the way from the United States shone too, joining the big stars in presenting an award.
The glitzy event that was broadcast live on Channel O from Walter Sisulu Square, in Kliptown, Soweto attracted millions of viewers from across the continent. Except for the Special Recognition Award, which went to Nigerian R&B duo P-Square,winners were chosen by music fans around the continent, who voted over more than two months via sms, web and WAP. Special Recognition winners, P Square also proved they are still very much at the top of their considerable game by taking home the Most Gifted African West Video for Alingo. Last year’s Special Recognition winner, Oscar Oskido Mdlongwa once again showed an incredible gift for keeping his career fresh and hot when Tsa Mandebele was named winner of the Most Gifted African SouthVideo.
